The Great Wall of China is located in Huairou, China . It is 21.19618 million metres long.The Great Wall of China has long been known as one of the greatest wonders of the world and also the symbol of China. It is also the collective name of a series of fortification systems generally built across the historical northern borders of China to protect and consolidate territories of Chinese states and empires against various nomadic groups of the steppe and their policies.Several walls were being built from as early as the 7th century BC by ancient Chinese states.Later on, many successive dynasties have built and maintained multiple stretches of border walls. The most well-known sections of the wall were built by the Ming dynasty.It took about 1800 years to build which is a lot of time.It was built to help keep out northern invaders like the Mongols. Smaller walls had been built over the years, but the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, decided that he wanted a single giant wall to protect the northern borders.During the construction of the wall many people died.These people were buried in the wall itself.The Chinese term for the wall emerges from a distant past long before name “the Great Wall” was used,when every city had its own wall,So the Chinese for “the Great Wall”, cháng chéng, means Long City. And Long wall. And Long Cities, or Long Walls, plural.The wall was used as a great defensive system. Today, the defensive system of the wall is generally recognised as a impressive architectural build.
